KAPOLEI GOLF CLUB HOSTS SUCCESSFUL RAINBOW WAHINE INVITATIONAL

Kapolei Golf Club recently concluded the hosting of Rainbow Wahine Invitational in October of 2022. Home of the University of Hawaiʻi Rainbow Wahine Golf Team, Kapolei played host to some of the top women’s golf programs in the country. Following four days of competition, Colorado State University was victorious in the event and Sofia Torres from (also from CSU) captured the individual title.

Kapolei Golf Club is no stranger to showcasing women’s golf as the club hosted the LPGA Tour’s Hawaiian Open from 1996 through 2001 and more recently hosted the LPGA Lotte Championship in 2021 (which crowned Lydia Ko as the winner).

University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa sophomore Mayumi Umezu placed third following a final round 5-under 67 to finish the three-day tournament at 4-under 212. The third place finish was the best of her collegiate career and her 212 total was also her 54-hole low. Umezu carded six birdies in her final 18, including a stretch of three straight on her front nine to post the tournament’s best score of the day.

Additional UH highlights included Hyeonji Kang, who birdied her final three holes to finish with a 2-under 70 and solo fifth place at 2-under 214 for the tournament and her career 54-hole low.
